Today we live in a complex and indecipherable historical period, closed, orphan of the lessons of the past and the hopes for the future, and we seem to find ourselves in the maze of a claustrophobic and dead-end labyrinth. We must rediscover its meaning and secrets, relearn how to move within it with courage and patience, with curiosity and memory.
Arnaldo Pomodoro, 2009
From the beginning of his artistic career, in the mid-fifties, Arnaldo Pomodoro carefully collects all the materials useful to keep track of his work and his relationships with artist friends, critics, personalities from the world of culture and institutions: these materials are newspaper clippings and magazines, books and catalogues, photographs and films, posters, postcards, letters... thus the Arnaldo Pomodoro Archive was born, a real heritage of memories which, in addition to documenting the life and work of one of the most important contemporary Italian artists, constitutes an unprecedented window open on the history of art and culture of the second half of the twentieth century.
Entrusted to Fondazione Arnaldo Pomodoro in 2018, the Archive has been rearranged and reorganized to ensure its correct conservation and facilitate its consultation. Subsequently, a digitization project was started, with the aim of promoting the enhancement and dissemination of the contents of the Archive: all the materials of the Archive will gradually flow into a freely accessible online database, designed as a tool for research and discovery of this extraordinary heritage.
